SUMMARY:BIFI TALK: Miguel Brun-Usan de la Universidad Autonoma de Madrid
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1793281425624{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Miguel Brun-Usan de la Universidad Autonoma de Madrid \nTitle: From Genes to Organisms: Modeling Biological Complexity Across Scales \nAbstract: From gene regulatory networks and individual cells to tissues\, organisms\, and ecosystems\, biological systems are remarkably complex. Much of this complexity emerges through bottom-up processes\, that is\, through interactions between individual components at lower levels of organization that give rise to collective (self-)organization. At the same time\, global constraints and emergent structures at larger scales shape the behavior of individual components in a top-down manner. Understanding this dynamic\, bidirectional interplay across biological scales remains a fascinating and challenging problem. \nIn this talk\, I will present an illustrated tour of mathematical and computational approaches to investigating these multilevel causal cascades\, drawing on concepts and tools from network theory\, learning theory\, dynamical systems theory\, and topological data analysis. The examples will be drawn primarily from problems I have worked on and am currently exploring\, with particular emphasis on embryonic development (arguably an epitome of complex systems)\, where the spatiotemporal coupling between gene regulatory network dynamics and morphogenesis drives the emergence of complex phenotypes\, which in turn provide the substrate for open-ended evolution. \nFinally\, I will discuss the limitations of current modeling approaches\, highlight open questions\, and explore potential directions for future research and interdisciplinary collaboration. \nSalón de actos Edificio I+D[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Supercomputing\, Science and Society: Scientific Workshop in Honor of Alfonso Tarancón's Career
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text title=”A Tribute to a Career” css=”.vc_custom_1793352829615{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\n\n\nOn the occasion of his 70th birthday and retirement\, we would like to pay tribute to Alfonso Tarancón and recognize his outstanding scientific career in the fields of computational physics and supercomputing. For decades\, his work has contributed to the development of these disciplines and left a lasting impact on both research and everyone who has had the opportunity to work\, collaborate\, and learn alongside him.\n\nOn November 20\, we will hold a special scientific workshop in his honor\, bringing together colleagues\, collaborators\, and friends. Through a series of talks given by peers and collaborators who have shared parts of his journey\, we will review some of the main lines of research that have marked his career: from the development of special-purpose computers for scientific simulations to the applications of advanced computing in science and society.\n\nIt will be an occasion to share experiences\, look back on past projects\, highlight his contributions\, and celebrate both his scientific legacy and the beginning of a new chapter.\n\nDate: November 20\nVenue: Sala de Grados\, Faculty of Sciences\, University of Zaragoza (San Francisco Campus)\nAddress: C/ Pedro Cerbuna\, 12\, 50009 Zaragoza\, Spain\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to this day of science\, recognition\, and celebration.\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1793352684136{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nTIME\nSPEAKER\nTOPIC\n\n\n\n\n9:30 – 9:45\nDavid Íñiguez Dieste\nTBA\n\n\n9:45 – 10:00\nJuan J.
