Fue precisamente esta idea la que impuls\u00f3 y promovi\u00f3 la creaci\u00f3n del Instituto de Biocomputaci\u00f3n y F\u00edsica de Sistemas Complejos (BIFI) de la Universidad de Zaragoza en el a\u00f1o 2002. El objetivo era crear un espacio en el que cient\u00edficos con diversa formaci\u00f3n y experiencia investigadora pudiesen resolver, a trav\u00e9s de las matem\u00e1ticas, la F\u00edsica, la Computaci\u00f3n y la Biolog\u00eda, una serie de problemas complejos que se encuentran en la frontera entre estas disciplinas y otras ramas de la Ciencia.<\/p>\n

Hoy en d\u00eda, podemos decir que nuestros objetivos fundacionales se han cumplido con \u00e9xito y que en el BIFI estudiamos una gran diversidad de sistemas complejos que abarcan desde la estructura y la din\u00e1mica de sistemas sociales a gran escala, a diferentes problemas en el campo de la Biolog\u00eda celular y molecular, las redes de prote\u00ednas o la propagaci\u00f3n de epidemias. Nuestros investigadores combinan teor\u00eda, simulaciones num\u00e9ricas y trabajo experimental para intentar resolver problemas espec\u00edficos con un gran impacto social como, por ejemplo, el desarrollo de nuevos f\u00e1rmacos y una mejor comprensi\u00f3n de los fen\u00f3menos sociales colectivos.<\/p>\n

Los objetivos del BIFI siguen siendo los mismos que ten\u00edamos en un inicio: alcanzar la excelencia cient\u00edfica, transferir el conocimiento b\u00e1sico, fomentar la innovaci\u00f3n y preparar a una nueva generaci\u00f3n de j\u00f3venes cient\u00edficos en el uso de t\u00e9cnicas y m\u00e9todos de diferentes disciplinas. En el BIFI, adem\u00e1s, promovemos una cultura cient\u00edfica abierta e innovadora, as\u00ed como el desarrollo de una red de colaboraciones con distintos grupos, compa\u00f1\u00edas e instituciones de reconocido prestigio tanto a nivel nacional como internacional.<\/p>\n
