Job Offer: ARAID Senior Researchers in Structural Biology, Biocomputation, Cell Biology, Network Science and Advanced Computing
The ARAID Foundation (Spain) has launched an international call for applications to fill 8 senior permanent research positions in different research areas. The call aims to recruit outstanding candidates of any nationality with excellent research records and leadership capabilities, expected to establish a vigorous and internationally competitive independent research program.
Candidates shall be pre-accepted by the different research institutes and centers (the «Host Institutions»), where they will eventually work. The BIFI Institute of the University of Zaragoza (Spain) is seeking candidates in the fields listed below. So, the first step in the application process is to contact BIFI to obtain the initial acceptance before February 23rd 2016. Pre-selected applicants will then submit their formal applications electronically before 14.00h (CET) February 29th 2016 in http://www.araid.es/en/content/international-call-recruitment-researchers-2015
Candidate profiles:
Candidates are expected to have a minimum of 6 years of postdoctoral experience; with at least two postdoc years spent in a prestigious research center. They should not be presently working in the research center that proposes them (with the only exception of researchers hired by ARAID within the COFUND ARAIDEU Program).
Application process:
Candidates should provide:
- Application form, CV and 2 reference letters in pdf format
- A declaration of interest filled by the Host Institution of choice.
Application, CV and letters are provided by the Researcher. The declaration of interest is to be filled by the Research/Manager at BIFI that will be immediate responsible of the Researcher.
Applicants should contact Prof. Javier Sancho (jsancho@unizar.es), Dr Ramón Hurtado-Guerrero (rhurtado@bifi.es), and Dr Yamir Moreno (yamirmoreno@gmail.com) before 23rd of February, 2016.
The elegible fields of research at BIFI are:
- Structural Biology: We are seeking an accomplished structural biologist with special emphasis in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to solve large protein complexes. This position provides the opportunity for a motivated individual to participate in and contribute significantly to a stimulating professional research environment at the cutting-edge of structural biology. The ideal candidate would have 3-5 years experience in microscopy with direct expertise in cryo-EM techniques, and knowledge of Linux and the software packages used to process EM data.
- Biocomputation: We are seeking a computational biologist experienced in the analysis of protein stability, dynamics and function and their relationships to human diseases and cellular regulation. The position provides the opportunity to participate in a stimulating mixed experimental and computational research environment at the cutting-edge of folding diseases, drug discovery and protein biotechnology. The ideal candidate would have 3-5 years experience in computational Biology, with experience in the analysis of databases, pdb files and MD trajectories using own scripts, and previous collaborations with experimental groups.
- Cell Biology: We are seeking an accomplished cell biologist with a strong drive for understanding molecular details. Experience with single particle tracking and imaging techniques applied to cell function analysis is desired. This position provides the opportunity to participate in a stimulating mixed experimental and theoretical research environment with many opportunities to collaborate in different projects. The ideal candidate would have 3-5 years experience in Cell Biology with direct experience in single molecule techniques and a strong interest in cell modelling.
- Network Science: We are seeking an experienced researcher in the broad area of network science, including network theory, computational social science, network biology and network epidemiology. The ideal candidate would have a physics, bioinformatics, computer science or mathematics PhD, with consolidated experience and interest in a wide range of problems where network methods are relevant. This position requires that applicants be willing to participate and contribute significantly to the scientific multidisciplinary environment of the Institute, to lead research projects and supervise PhD students.
- Advanced computing: We are seeking a researcher on tools for the optimal use of HPC, Cloud and Special Purpose computers. These tools range from ad hoc operating systems designed to run on specific architectures, software interpreters to efficiently translate high-level code into more specific languages as VHDL, new communication drivers or even, at a higher level of abstraction, middleware for transparent and efficient execution of processes in distributed infrastructures.
