Personal statement
With an interdisciplinary background in the Humanities, I carry out my teaching and research activities in the Department of English and German Philology at the University of Zaragoza, where I currently hold a teaching position. My academic career is closely linked to this institution, where I completed my doctoral thesis, Fundraising Science: A Rhetorical, Phraseological and Evaluative Approach to Crowdfunding Science Project Proposals (awarded Cum Laude), supported by a predoctoral contract funded by the Government of Aragón.
My teaching experience covers both culturally oriented courses, such as History and Culture of the United Kingdom, and modules aimed at developing communicative competence in English, including English for Oral and Written Communication and Learning and Acquisition of English as a Foreign Language. This diversity has allowed me to combine a humanistic and sociocultural perspective with an applied approach to teaching English as an international language.
Since 2019, I have been a member of the research group CIRES (Intercultural Communication and Social Challenges), funded by the Government of Aragón and the European Union. I am also part of the research project GENCI 2.0 – Digital Genres and Open Science (PID2019-105655RB-I00), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the State Research Agency, where I have contributed to the analysis of digital genres and their communicative and social implications. Since 2022, I have also been a member of Dr Pérez-Llantada’s Digital Science Lab at the Institute of Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems at the University of Zaragoza.
Researcher profile identity
I am currently an R2-level researcher. Alongside my teaching duties, my research focuses on discourse analysis and applied linguistics, with particular attention to academic and professional genres in digital environments, lexicography, metadiscourse, and the rhetorical strategies employed in contemporary scientific communication.
From a critical and transdisciplinary perspective, I examine phenomena such as the transfer of scientific knowledge, discursive hybridity, and processes of remediation in emerging digital genres, such as scientific crowdfunding proposals.
Why my research is important
My research is significant because it sheds light on how scientific knowledge is communicated, adapted, and transformed in contemporary digital environments. By examining academic and professional genres—particularly those emerging in online contexts such as scientific crowdfunding proposals—my work reveals the linguistic strategies that shape the way science reaches both expert and lay audiences.
This research is crucial for understanding how digital platforms are reshaping the production, dissemination, and reception of scientific discourse. It highlights processes such as knowledge transfer, discursive hybridity, and remediation, offering insights that are valuable not only for linguistics but also for science communication, education, and public engagement with research. This work will give rise to pedagogical resources in English for specific purposes, which can be applied across various academic contexts related to scientific communication. The knowledge generated can be transferred to researchers at Aragonese, Spanish, and European campuses and research institutes.
