Personal statement
I joined BIFI in 2007, as part of my final project for my degree in Computer Engineering, developing a technology transfer project to the agricultural sector, creating a system that allowed the remote management of irrigation systems. Since then, I have participated in numerous projects in different fields in which distributed computing and software development have been essential for their implementation, constantly applying new techniques and technologies. This motivated me to take the Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering and Computer Science, which I finished in 2014, and in which I focused on information systems and semantic analysis. That same year I was also one of the founders of the spin-off Kampal Data Solutions, in which I continue to collaborate.

Researcher profile identity
I am currently an R2 researcher. The projects in which I have participated have focused on different lines of research. Initially they were closely related to Ibercivis and citizen science, trying to bring the world of research closer to citizens. I have also participated in several projects to make the potential of distributed computing infrastructures, such as GRID and Cloud, more accessible to communities with no knowledge of these technologies, developing simple and intuitive tools for this purpose, something I continue to do today. More recently, I have worked on the analysis of large volumes of data for knowledge extraction, using complex network techniques, data science and artificial intelligence. Some of the areas in which I apply these technologies are social networks, in order to better understand the interaction among their users, and R&D&I, with the aim of studying the collaborative networks formed between researchers.

Why my research is important
The importance of this research lies in democratization of access to scientific knowledge and involving society in the generation of new knowledge. Furthermore, making distributed computing infrastructures accessible to the scientific community that is not specialised in this field allows research to be accelerated, achieving important advances in less time, achieving better results and even reducing costs by being able to replace real tests with simulations or digital twins. The use of this type of infrastructure also allows the analysis of large volumes of data and the extraction of knowledge from them through complex networks, data science and artificial intelligence—tools that are essential to better understand social phenomena, such as interaction in social networks, and to promote innovation in collaboration between researchers through R&D&I.
