Personal statement
I am a senior lecturer in the Department of English and German Philology at the University of Zaragoza. My research and teaching have focused on academic discourse and language teaching. I have taught English for Specific Purposes, English for Academic Purposes, and English Teaching and Learning. In my PhD thesis, I used corpus linguistics methods to analyse the discourse of the medical article. Since then, my research has focused on genre analysis for academic communication, and more recently on digital genre analysis for science communication.
Researcher profile identity
I am one of the PIs of the GENCI research group. In this group we investigate scientific communication in digital environments and the dissemination of science through digital genres. I analyse how different digital genres, such as academic blogs, science videos or academic social networks (e.g. Twitter/X), are used for the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge and for the promotion and visibility of research and researchers. I study the strategies scientists use to make the content of these genres comprehensible and attractive to various audiences. I also analyse the relationships between digital genres and traditional academic genres (e.g. the research article) and the processes of composition of multimodal digital genres.
Why my research is important
Digital genres contribute to increasing the visibility of research results and communicating these results to different audiences (from experts in the discipline to other audiences interested in the topic). My research has shown that scientists need to adapt their language, taking into account the possibilities of the digital medium and the audience for which they write, and to use different semiotic resources (text, images, video) when composing these genres. My results reveal the strategies that scientists can use to present their research in an attractive and comprehensible way and thus achieve greater visibility and academic and social impact.
