The Institute of Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems at the University of Zaragoza organised the workshop “The Journey Through the Digestive System” for members of the Utrillo Association
This week, the Institute of Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI) at the University of Zaragoza organised a series of public science events entitled “The Journey Through the Digestive System”, with the aim of explaining how the human body works to members of the Utrillo Association. The event was organised by researchers Giuliana Oriana and Olga Abián.
The event took place on Thursday 16th, from 10:00 to 13:00, and Friday 17th, from 09:30 to 14:00, as part of an initiative designed to make science more accessible and inclusive.
Through an experimental and participatory approach, participants not only learnt about the theoretical concepts but also gained hands-on experience of the digestive process, from food intake to nutrient absorption and waste formation.
The workshop was led by a team of young female researchers, some of whom are affiliated with the Translational Research Group in Digestive Pathology at the CIBER for Liver and Digestive Diseases (CIBERehd) and others with the Cancer Heterogeneity and Immunomics (CHI LAB) group at the Aragon Institute of Health Research (IIS Aragón). They volunteered their expertise and dedication to help make science an accessible and barrier-free space.
This collaboration made it possible to translate scientific knowledge into social contexts, foster inclusion and promote healthy lifestyles among the participants.
