BIFI strengthens its leadership in supercomputing with a new funding agreement from the Government of Aragon
The BIFI Institute and the Supercomputing Centre of Aragon (CESAR) receive a new institutional boost with the signing of a 560,000 euro funding agreement between the University of Zaragoza and the Government of Aragon. This agreement will triple the current resources and consolidate the BIFI as a key infrastructure for scientific development, artificial intelligence and high performance computing in Aragon.
The Regional Minister of Employment, Science and Universities of the Government of Aragon, Claudia Pérez Forniés, recently visited the Supercomputing Centre of Aragon (CESAR) accompanied by the Rector of the University of Zaragoza, Rosa Bolea, on the occasion of the signing of a new funding agreement between the two institutions.
The agreement, which will run from 2025 to 2028, provides for a total budget of 560,000 euros at a rate of 140,000 euros per year, which triples the current funding for CESAR. This significant budget increase will enable the centre’s technical and scientific capabilities to be consolidated and expanded.
This new agreement represents the Government of Aragon’s support for Science, Artificial Intelligence and Research Infrastructures, and represents a strategic boost for the Biocomputing and Complex Systems Physics Institute (BIFI). Thanks to this funding, the BIFI reinforces its position as a regional benchmark in supercomputing, with the capacity to attract, manage and operate cutting-edge technological infrastructures that support both the research community and the business community, at regional, national and European level.
