From 30 September to 2 October 2025, the international seminar ‘Digital Cultural Heritage Twins: Connections Bridging Documentation, Analysis and Education from Satellite to Ground’ will take place at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts at the University of Zaragoza. The seminar is part of the HerOn project, which is funded by the UNITA Starting Grant in the thematic area of ‘Tourism and Cultural Heritage in a Digital World’. Attendees will receive 1 ECTS credit from UNIZAR for participating in the seminar.

Organised by Jorge Angás from the Seminar on Geomatics Applied to Archaeology and Heritage (SeGAP), this event will bring together experts from various European institutions to discuss advances in applying digital technologies to the study and conservation of cultural heritage. Jorge is leading both the ‘HerOn’ project, under which this seminar falls, and the DiGHER project (‘Digital Twins for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage: Management, Monitoring and Interpretation of Geospatial Data’), for which the BIFI is developing a comprehensive platform combining software and hardware solutions for managing and analysing graphic and geometric information relating to cultural heritage.

The platform will collect, visualise and process ‘digital twins’ of real estate, facilitating bidirectional analysis between the real and simulated worlds, and promoting preventive conservation strategies. It has been developed through collaboration between archaeology, history, computing, architecture, geography, geomatics engineering and art history.

The BIFI will be represented by Gonzalo Ruiz, who will present a paper entitled ‘Automation and advanced visualisation of cultural heritage in web environments’. This presentation will address the tools developed in the DiGHER project for documenting and analysing cultural heritage using advanced web technologies.
