XIII BIFI National Conference took place from 14 to 16 January 2026
This year, the conference took place at the Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems in the R&D building on the Río Ebro Campus of the University of Zaragoza (https://bifi26.bifi.es/). The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice-Chancellor for Scientific Policy, Mª Pilar Pina, and the Director of BIFI, Yamir Moreno.
This national conference once again brought together researchers from across the institute and beyond to share their latest results and ideas, with distinguished guest scientists also in attendance. The meeting covered all areas of research at BIFI, including physics, computing, biochemistry, biophysics and cellular and molecular biology. It provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives and strengthen our community.
This high-level scientific event was a resounding success, with almost 140 people registered, providing a meeting point where interdisciplinarity, scientific excellence, and collaboration took centre stage.
At BIFI, we are proud to organise these national scientific conferences, which highlight the Institute’s role as a driving force for knowledge, innovation, and talent development.
The organising committee for this edition comprised the following people:
- Josep Argerich Bergadá, Department of Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology /Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI), University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza.
- Laura Asín Pardo, Department of Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology /Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI), University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza.
- David Ortega Alarcón, Department of Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology /Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI), University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza.
- Joaquín Sanz Remón, Department of Theoretical Physics /Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI), University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza.
- Victor Taleb Seral, Department of Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology /Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI), University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza.
All BIFI members participated intensively in the event, many of them in the early stages of their careers. Some were selected to give oral or poster presentations.
After three days of talks and knowledge exchange, the event closed with the presentation of two awards sponsored by CerTest Biotec, Kampal: one for the best poster and the other for the best oral presentation.
The winners were:
- Best poster presentation: Victoria Ribón Fuster
- Best oral presentation: Carlos Vega Gutiérrez
