The European hub for digital science communication is born: SciCommHub.eu
With the aim of bridging the gap between the laboratory and society, SciCommHub.eu was created, a pioneering European platform offering open educational resources for researchers and professionals. In a context marked by the spread of misinformation, this digital space provides practical strategies and tools to strengthen the presence of science on social media and digital environments, promoting clear, rigorous and engaging communication.
SciCommHub.eu is one of the main results of the European Erasmus+ DILAN (Digital Language and Communication Training for EU Scientists) project, managed by the Campus Iberus Consortium and led by Dr Carmen Pérez-Llantada, a researcher at the Institute of Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI) at the University of Zaragoza. The project has benefited from the collaboration of an international consortium made up of six European universities —Bordeaux, Clermont Auvergne, OSLOMET, Bucharest and Constanta— together with strategic partners such as the Ibercivis Foundation, a leader in citizen science, and Kampal Data Solutions, which specialises in data analysis and artificial intelligence.
SciCommHub.eu offers the research community two open educational resources that are completely free of charge, developed from empirical findings on new dissemination formats and an exhaustive analysis of training needs. A MOOC (Introduction to Online Science Communication Strategies) designed for independent learning of communication strategies on social media. And a short course (Online Science Communication) in blended learning mode, designed for teachers of languages for specific purposes and human resources trainers in R&D&I. Both courses are certified according to European standards of linguistic, intercultural and digital competence.
In addition to the courses, the platform, which is hosted on BIFI’s server infrastructure, functions as a resource centre, including a comprehensive study on best practices in digital communication. Of particular note is its gallery of audiovisual testimonials from European researchers in STEMM fields, who share real experiences and success stories in online dissemination. This approach not only seeks technical excellence, but also aims to promote more open, effective and inclusive scientific communication.
With the launch of scicommhub.eu, researchers, postgraduate students, university managers and science communication professionals will find in this platform a space for learning and reference to improve the visibility, understanding and social impact of science in today’s digital ecosystem.
